Pancheros Integrates Twitter Into Stores

Last month I wrote a post about Pancheros’ use of Twitter. In the post I described what I would do if I was tapped on the shoulder to help Pancheros develop an in-store social media strategy.
You should really read that post first.
Since then Joel from Pancheros and I have been tweeting back and forth, he even sent me some free burrito gift cards. I found out that Joel is heading back to school in the fall, but intends to make an impact while still at Pancheros
I am happy to report that Joel is making some real headway! Today I went to Pancheros to grab a burrito and was greeted by this sign.
FREAKIN’ AWESOME JOEL! It even looks similar to the design I mocked up for the T-Shirt (below).

As far as I know Pancheros has become the first national chain of fast food restaurants to integrate Twitter promotion with their physical store locations. I am pretty happy about it, I feel like I helped get the effort going. I wonder how long it will be before McDonalds, Burger King and Taco Bell follow their lead.
Keep going Joel! I want to see those Twitter screens soon : )

Thanks Ted! We’ve already seen a marked increase in our Twitter following since these clings have shown up in stores. Hopefully this is a first step towards more engagement with customers. We want to hear your voices!
I think its great that restaurants are finally starting to realize the potential of integrating Social Media into their overall marketing plans. Not only does it give them a stronger presence on the web (thus more business), it also gives them a competitive advantage when it comes to providing great customer service (something a lot of restaurants fall short of). I’m excited to see if and how other restaurants start responding.
What a great idea! It’s amazing to see these restaurant chains jumping in - Twitter hasn’t grown anywhere near it’s potential yet and by becoming a part of it early, I can see Pancheros benefitting greatly!
@Ted - That’s awesome! Genius!
@Joel - You are doing a fantastic job! Even better you are listening to your community and acting on their recommendations.
That’s cool! I love seeing how all these companies are seeing what social media can do for them!! LOVE IT
Ted, you are changing the face of chain restaurant marketing
I love that the employee is wearing a Twitter shirt! Good job Pancheros for jumping on this opportunity!
This is so groovy, Ted - I am totally gonna go tell my brother that Jason’s needs to get in on this action! They are really starting to dig into our social media world (which ROCKS!) but, I’m going to send him this post to show him even more ideas!
Nice Post. TweetUps at the restaurants, free burritos Lava Row’s advice and Joel Johnson’s lead have translated into a rabid Panchero’s, both online and off.
Ted- great post! The next time I’m in a Panchero’s and I see that cling, I’ll be thinking of you. Can’t wait to meet up at SXSW!
That’s great! It’s awesome to see retailers embracing new technology in this way. Innovation is the key to success in this climate, so kudos to you guys for having the guts to invest time and effort into Twitter.
I agree with Ted, it’s only a matter of time before other organisations adopt the idea (except maybe budget airlines who don’t seem to really care what their customers have to say about them)
