Should I Repaint The House?
I just received an email from Tara followed by a nervous phone call. It seems the brown color we thought we picked for the back houseĀ is actually more of an orange. Now we are faced with a dilemma; keep the house as is or repaint it something more brown. I am not sure if I like the color or not. I need your help asap! I have to tell the painter by the end of the day if I want him to finish or start over. It will run about $500 or so to repaint what he has done so far. Please leave a comment and tell me what to do.

I kinda like the orange with the green
Steven-Sanders on 01.27.2009 at 11:40 am
I’m thinking a beige (stucco) color.
Patrick Jarrett on 01.27.2009 at 11:41 am
I like the Orange, I say leave it.
BenSpark on 01.27.2009 at 11:41 am
I’d leave it as a reminder to always check first in a small area before painting everything.
Mark Krupinski on 01.27.2009 at 11:43 am
I like them both – don’t change man, don’t change….
Art on 01.27.2009 at 11:44 am
Keep it, but put some shimmer flakes in it. It’ll look P-I-M-P. Orange is the new… well, it’s still orange.
In all seriousness, if the pic is a good reproduction, then it looks pretty good. As long as you don’t think it’ll stick out in the neighborhood, I say keep it!

I like it. We have a house that color in our neighborhood and they have a really pretty slate blue door paired with the terra cotta.
Chris on 01.27.2009 at 11:47 am
I think it looks great! Although, if it were my house I’d have gone for Yellow (with white window seals it will look the nuts!)
Gatorbates on 01.27.2009 at 11:47 am
paint the green one blue, so they’re Gator colors. Right now it looks like a ‘Canes house.
Honestly, INMH I’d say paint it a little darker ..

Give me $300 and I do it for you… Best deal ever.
Kevin on 01.27.2009 at 11:49 am
yeah, I say leave it…I’m liking the green with the orange. It complements your blog design too.
David Brim on 01.27.2009 at 11:50 am
I’d go with the orange, it doesn’t look bad and I feel it fits your personal brand.
plus you’ll save money
QATerminator on 01.27.2009 at 11:51 am
I would say leave the orange house the way it is and paint the green one brown. Brown and orange go good togther
Ang. on 01.27.2009 at 11:53 am
Leave it. It looks great!
Andrew on 01.27.2009 at 11:53 am
I’d go with whatever Tara’s instinct is on this one. If she called you nervously, she’s probably not really excited about it as it is. I think it’s fine, but then I’m kind of used to vibrant colors around here.
Lar on 01.27.2009 at 11:54 am
you should get an orange tree to go with it…
Markus Langenfeld on 01.27.2009 at 11:54 am
I’d say leave it, the orange looks pretty cool in that kind of ‘tropical’ setting you guys have down there.
Then again, if your not happy with it you should change it, the color of your house isn’t something people re-engineer on a regular basis. Normal people anyway.
erin on 01.27.2009 at 11:55 am
i would change it now if you already know you don’t like it.
Trevor on 01.27.2009 at 11:56 am
Slap your twitter logo on the side of it and call it a day
JoeSales on 01.27.2009 at 12:01 pm
Keep it….. it looks fine.
Darren Singleton on 01.27.2009 at 12:07 pm
Leave it orange. It doesn’t look too bad, spend the $500 on something fun!
Darren Singleton on 01.27.2009 at 12:07 pm
@Darren Singleton:
I meant to add – like a bath of cereal . . .
Craig Murphy on 01.27.2009 at 12:07 pm
leave it as is, call it “Salmon House” and keep the $500 in your pocket!
Ranee on 01.27.2009 at 12:12 pm
I’d repaint. I’d also go with a stucco type color or some shade or tan. I’m with whoever said it, if Tara called you and sounded panicky, it’s probably not going to just grow on her or be something she gets used to. My bet is in a year you’ll be repainting it anyway and that will cost more money!
Melinda on 01.27.2009 at 12:17 pm
Stick with the orange. No one calls it that anyway … it’s terracotta! lol
Tara on 01.27.2009 at 12:30 pm
I’d like to get a few more female opinions in this informal focus group – no offense men!
Priscilla on 01.27.2009 at 12:32 pm
I think it looks nice, but you are the one who has to live in it and see it every day. Listen to your intuition.
Scott on 01.27.2009 at 12:35 pm
Do a patch test first. pick a couple of colors and paint each about 3′ x 3′ square on the side of the house. Let them dry and then decide. Save so much dis-appointment when you decide this way.
becky on 01.27.2009 at 12:44 pm
IMPO, I think they compliment each other nicely. However, if You & Tara don’t like it….you have to live there.
if you decide to change, my pearl of wisdom is to pick a color you like, then go 2 shades LIGHTER for the paint. colors amplify- It will end up looking like the color you picked.
Luis on 01.27.2009 at 2:06 pm
I need more pics for a better assessment…
Jennifer on 01.27.2009 at 2:34 pm
It doesn’t look too bad in the picture, but I’m guessing it’s probably far more shocking in person. I’d probably repaint.
Nellie on 01.27.2009 at 3:37 pm
If for any reason you even think you will be dissatisfied within the next few minutes or even the next 8 or 10 years, repaint NOW.
Ted Murphy on 01.27.2009 at 4:40 pm
We decided to stick with it. Thanks for all your feedback. That was a hard decision.
Alli on 01.27.2009 at 7:03 pm
I like the orange (it’s my signature color!). I actually don’t like the green.
But hey, they are your houses.
Heather in Beautiful BC on 01.28.2009 at 10:18 am
I’m so glad you decided to go with the terracotta color – it looks lovely with the palm trees! Great choice
Chris Miller on 01.31.2009 at 12:56 am
Orange rocks dude…. GOOD decision!
