How Not to Make a Sale

If you are an Indian IT outsourcing company do yourself a favor and hire an American sales person (or at least someone who can speak English clearly). If I can’t even understand a voicemail what would make me think we would have good ongoing communication. Someone translate this for me.

Listen to this Sales Call From India

I get about 4 of these a week from different companies. They drive me nuts.

At least you had the good sense to let it go to voicemail.

A conversation would have been a lot harder to have (are you listening Sonicwall Level 1 support!).

The salesman seems to know he isn’t going to be understood. You can hear him sigh about three quarters of the way through. lol

My tongue lashing is that you misspelled tongue. But back to your voice mail: you should totally let them catch you live, and then make them repeat their chosen English name several times. And then you could say

    “Sprechen sie Deutsch?”
“Se hablo espanol?”(yes, I realize the ? is wrong there)
    “Parle Vous Francais?”

And just keep saying those things louder and slower until they hang up. But then, I am very easily amused.

The only words I understood were “service” and “Thank You”. So, at least you know you’ll get your service with a smile. Now, what that service might be is another question entirely…

    @Cass:
CRAP! You are right. How in the world did that happen? It is right in one place and not the other. My bad.

  8. Cass on 11.10.2008 at 4:33 pm

Ha, you obviously need an editor. Yes, I am available now that you ask ;)

  9. Erin on 11.10.2008 at 4:36 pm

I love the sigh as well!!!

And because of these people, I am an unemployed tech support person.

that message is a classic. i love the sigh toward the end and the “thank you” at the end, the rest? ….
